Here is the news: One Book Whonnock is starting up again, with the following title chosen for this year:
Confessions of an Igloo Dweller: The story of the man who brought Inuit art to the outside world, by James Houston
'These memoirs of James Houston’s life in the Canadian Arctic from 1948 to 1962 present a colourful and compelling adventure story of real people living through a time of great change. It is extraordinarily rich material about a fascinating world.”
I love the book. I’m just reading it for the second time, and am enjoying it as much as I did the first time. It is well written, with a good sense of humour, and it reads like a novel. I hope that other readers will have similar feelings about it!
The book is currently out of print, but we have a few second-hand copies available that we could lend out or even sell (at different prices, not over $15). Depending on interest and demand, we may order a few more.
You know how it works: “sign up,” i.e. contact us by e-mail or phone (604-462-8942 or <firstname.lastname@example.org>), read the book, and come to the get-together, which is currently planned for the first half of May this year, to talk about it. Our committee members are:
Julie Young (out of town until early March)
We look forward to hearing from you!
