Review of Paris 1900

Click here for a review of Paris 1900 by Sally Marks, a  US historian, who, according to Wikipedia,  "has written extensively on World War I reparation and interwar diplomacy more generally.”
Mark’s conclusion: "What matters is that MacMillan may succeed where authors of scholarly monographs have failed in convincing a wider audience that the peace settlement in general and the Versailles treaty in particular were not fully or even primarily to blame for a supposed twenty year nightmare and a second world war. If her book accomplishes this, we may all be grateful.”

One Book Whonnock 2015-16

Paris 1919: Six Months That Changed the World by Margaret MacMillan was selected by the participants of the last "One Book Whonnock" gathering.  It's a big book - so start reading early - and take notes. There are two main questions to answer:

  • How did reading this book help you understand more recent world events?
  • What is your family story in 1919?
Do you have stories of the impact on your family of World War I and its aftermath?  We'd like you to submit these ahead of time so they can be part of the display at the gathering on Tuesday, April 5, 2016.

Yesterday’s One Book Whonnock meeting at Whonnock Lake Centre was a great success. The hall was covered with signs and other furnishings of elections past, including voting booths. There were lively discussions and lots of laughter. Click here to see some pictures!
